My Journey from Retired Attorney to Writer
My name is Murry Page. I am the proud father of two children, one living in Texas and the other in Oregon. I am also proud to say that Linda Hull is my lifelong partner.
In 2003 I retired from a life in Texas to one in Mazatlán, México. From a life of constant demands to one of few demands, I quickly realized I wanted and needed to keep my brain engaged.
So, for a number of years I taught Conversational English to local Spanish students and I volunteered for a number of local charities, as well as the city´s community theater.
As time went by I was asked to write an article on estate planning for foreign nationals living in Mazatlán for Hospice Mazatlán, one of our local charities. That little project turned into a book with the proceeds going to Hospice Mazatlán.
Shortly after that venture I began writing daily articles for our online English language newspaper, The Mazatlan Messenger. Within a short period of time, I began to author a semimonthly column for the newspaper, The Page Turner.
My love for research, writing, and México resulted in the articles for The Page Turner running the gamut. I wrote about Pancho Villa, as well as Carlos Slim. I authored articles on México’s largest and most powerful unions, the National Union of Education Workers and The Union of Petroleum Workers of Mexico. However, my writings also included lighter topics, such as Chiclets – The Candy-Coated Gum and México City’s Organ Grinders.
After five years of writing The Page Turner I retired from the newspaper and wrote two books about México, The Gringo Guide to México – Its History, People, and Culture – Vol. I and Vol. II and The Gringo Guide to México – Estate Planning.
My desire to continuing learning and writing about México led me to start a blog. As with all of my writing, my purpose was to provide foreign nationals living in México, and those who hope to in the future, information that will make their life here more interesting and meaningful.

"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at 20 or 80. Anyone who keeps learning stays young."
Keeping your brain engaged and active, no matter your age, is about a desire to learn and searching for enlightening experiences.
If you plan to continue your lifelong learning and want to include in that endeavor learning more about the history, people and culture of México, you´ve come to the right place.
Let´s make this trip together.
